SEBRSD Food Services

Spencer, MA - September 22, 2020 - On September 10th, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will extend several flexibilities through December 31, 2020. The flexibilities allow summer meal program operators to continue serving FREE meals to all children during this time. This will allow the children of our learning community to have access to nutritious food. Also, this program brings a huge relief to families who might not qualify for free meals yet are still going through a difficult time.  Now, families will have some relief on how to keep food on the table for their children learning in either mode of learning, hybrid or remote.

Since March 2020, Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District (SEBRSD) has served 23,743 free meals to members of the community. With the guidance of the USDA waiver Knox Trail Middle School (73 Ash St Spencer MA) is an open feeding site that will provide bulk free meals between the hours of 9am-1pm on Mondays and Wednesdays pick-up. Families of children 0-18 years of age are eligible for the service no questions asked. The Food Service Department does have a google form (https://forms.gle/C4HUX3w35JfLGyTx9) where meals can be ordered weekly and menus are posted on www.SEBRSD.org. If members of the community do not have access to order ahead of time, walk-Ins are welcome.

Also during this time,  Food Services will be providing free meals in the classrooms for students that are learning in the hybrid model in our elementary schools. The students who will be in the hybrid model can bring home meals for the Friday remote day if ordered. We hope to reach as many of the students in the district with our program and continue to feed the minds of the community we serve.

SEBRSD Food Services will also continue to collect Free and Reduced Applications during this time. Applications can be dropped off to any of the schools or the Administrative building. https://www.sebrsd.org/o/sebrsd/page/free-reduced-lunch-program--5
