Adopted Calf Announcement

SPENCER, MA - November 30th, 2020 - Earlier this school year, Mrs. Durant's first grade class at the Wire Village School was notified by the Dairy Excellence Foundation that they were selected to participate in the Adopt-a-Cow program.  The host family in charge of caring for the calf is the Chittenden Family at Dutch Hollow Farm.

Dutch Hollow Farm

Brian, Alan, Nathan and their parents Paul and Melanie, own and operate Dutch Hollow Farm in Schodack Landing, New York. On their farm, they care for 750 milking jersey cows on a 2,000-acre farm. They also have a Dairy Discovery Center.  For the next 6 months, we will connect with Farmer Nate to learn about your adopted calf and the farm she lives on.

Farmer Nate is one of the three siblings that manage the day to day operation on the farm. Here is Farmer Nate with one of his favorite jersey calves.

And check out that view! The Chittendens moved their farm to New York and established Dutch Hollow Farm in 1976.

We would like to introduce you to your cute baby calf at Dutch Hollow Farm. Her number is 8337!

Help Mrs. Durant's Class name the Calf!

Farmer Nate hasn't selected a name for her yet, so we are asking YOU to help us come up with names.  Please send any name suggestions to Mrs. Durant at: durantr@sebrsd.org. All of the name suggestions will be given to Farmer Nate and he will select the one he likes best. At this time, the Chittenden family, Farmer Nate and the farm plan on letting us know the name of the calf sometime after Thanksgiving.

Name suggestions are due by Wednesday, December 2nd!
