Superintendent Update: School Closure - Week of April 13th!

Remote Learning

Dear Parents, Families and Community Members,

I hope this correspondence finds you and yours continuing to do well.  I am writing to provide you with a few quick updates before the April vacation arrives...

Operation Feed SEBRSD!

The Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District Director of Food Services received news that our Food Services Department had been selected to be the Unsung Heroes of the Week for April 13th, 2020!  As of Friday, April 17th, 2020, our Food Services Department provided over 2,174 free “Grab & Go” Meals to our students.  Many congratulations to everyone involved in making the vital program so successful!

FREE meals for all students within the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District will be made available from 11:00am - 12:30pm at the Mary Queen of the Rosary Church (Parking Lot).   Special thanks to the Spencer Exchange Club, aHugInc.,, Big Y Price Chopper and volunteers from our local communities for providing “Grab & Go” Meals for the week of April 20-24th!

Remote Learning

As of March 30th, 2020, we have been providing work remotely to our students and to you as a family.  To access the District Remote Learning Opportunities, go to: Learn @Home anytime.  Please refer to SEBRSD's Remote Learning Website to view your students' specific school assigned learning opportunities each week. Additional suggestions for supporting students' remote learning can be viewed from our Student Services Webpage or our Student Services Information Bulletin.

During the week of April Vacation, our campus — including virtual learning opportunities/activities, offices, and school facilities — will be closed.

Please take a moment to let us know how we are doing by completing one of the three surveys that applies to you.  This data will he;p us in refining our work in the final six weeks of the school year.  There are three surveys, one for students, parents/families, and teachers.

Again, we welcome your feedback as we work to refine our remote learning efforts as a school district!   All students, faculty, staff and the district return to remote learning on Monday, April 27th, 2020!

MSBA Update

I am very excited to announce that this past week, on Wednesday, April 14th, 2020, State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg and the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) held a Remote Board of Directors meeting.  Working Remotely hasn’t stopped the MSBA in funding affordable, sustainable, and efficient schools in partnership with local communities.  As a result of their remote meeting, I am happy to report that we were selected to move forward in the process to select an Ownace Project Manager (OPM).  I am so proud of our David Prouty High School Building Committee's efforts, to date, and look forward to this continued partnership and support with the MSBA so that we may realize a David Prouty High School that meets the learning needs of our students - now and into the future - within the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District. #Onward #Upward #WokringRemotely

United States Census

The 2020 United States Census has begun. Census documentation has been sent to all residences, and families can respond online in 13 languages. Everyone who does not respond online will eventually receive a paper form in English and Spanish from the Census Bureau. (More information for parents is here.) In addition, online Statistics in Schools educational resources are available to use with students at home. An accurate count is vital in order to help our schools get needed resources. Please encourage everyone in your school community to complete the Census form if they haven’t done so already.

Sharing the "Good Stuff"

As mentioned in an earlier Superintendent Updates, if families want to take pictures of their students remote learning online, I'd love to have them share!  Please continue using the hashtag #SEBRSDLearnsTogether and #WeGotThis would be awesome if folks want to post pictures on twitter and use that hashtag and go ahead and loop me in (@ChooseSEBRSD) or my personal twitter account (@pshaughey).  Would love to see them and re-tweet and maybe even share on Facebook site too!  Let's do what we do best - CELEBRATE THE GOOD!

Closing Thoughts

Please continue to follow all the CDC guidelines - washing your hands often and social distancing; taking care of yourselves and your loved ones; and checking in on your neighbors (remotely).  And finally, please stay safe. Stay healthy! Stay home! We miss you very much and look forward to seeing you again soon.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support of the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District!!  #Progress #Unity #Knowledge

Sincerely Yours,

Paul S. Haughey, Ed.D.
