This event was held to provide the community, who has been so supportive during this transformative construction / renovation project, an opportunity to tour the brand new wing of David Prouty High School. Throughout this year, updates on the second phase of construction are being shared by the district, so we know you join us in our anticipation of next school year and the final opening phase of the construction with a fully-functional school complex! We would like to thank everyone who came out to Tuesday night's open house, including the hundreds of invested citizens, many of whom were multi-generational David Prouty alumni! All appeared to enjoy their time exploring the new facility. Thank you to our awesome Student Council members who hosted the event and acted as DPHS ambassadors.

DPHS Unified Basketball's Inaugural Game!

The David Prouty Unified basketball team played in their inaugural game in Oxford against a co-op team of Bartlett and Oxford.  The team played great with contributions from all; the sportsmanship, camaraderie and fun was amazing!

This week, students in Ms. Battles' Photography class learned how to use framing to draw attention to their subject. After capturing their photos, they used digital editing to refine and enhance their final images.

In celebration of former David Prouty standout, class of 2012 alum, and Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl running back Pat Ricard, we are participating in the Ravens “Caw to Action”, a program to motivate hometown organizations to prioritize community service and civic engagement. Our DPHS students have accepted this challenge! David Prouty is holding a food drive benefiting the Mary Queen of the Rosary food pantry in Spencer through September 30th.

👉 Drop off any non-perishable food items to the David Prouty high school office, during school hours, to contribute and join current students as we meet Pat’s challenge!  Prouty Pride!

DPHS 9th Graders will be completing their SECOND rotation of Exploratory at David Prouty High School on September 30!

Please remember, as students complete their second rotation, conversations you can have at home that support your child's consideration about their goals, interests, skills, and hobbies, and how that may influence their choice in a program for Quarter 2, are greatly appreciated!

During their second rotation, 9th Graders will continue to begin to get a sense of what the different CTE programs at DPHS entail. We want to provide more information about where each could lead. David Prouty High School has a diverse set of Career and Technical Education programs in in Criminal Justice, Early Education and Care (Early Childhood Education), Environmental Science, or Marketing ON SITE designed to put students in the driver's seat for their futures with four relevant, high-demand options for career training and real-world experience.

At DPHS, students get intensive programming in their chosen field, with capstone projects and internship opportunities with outside organizations directly using their training without leaving their friends or David Prouty High School!

Screenings

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) requires all schools to perform mandated health screenings. The screenings at the High School Level include vision, hearing, and Body Mass Index for grade 10. Postural and SBIRT (screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment) are conducted for grade 9. 

The 10th-grade screenings will begin on 9/30/26. Please refer to the email that was sent by the nurse on 9/22/25 for further details. 

How Long Are Sports Physicals Valid? 

Under the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) rules, an athlete’s physical exam is valid for 13 months from the date of the exam; i.e., an exam performed on 9/22/2024 will be valid until 10/22/25. Students who participate in sports need to have a valid physical on record with the nurse’s office that is current through their entire sports season. 

If your student’s physical exam expires during the sports season, they will be exempt from play until a new physical is provided to the nurse. Please plan accordingly and schedule your student’s physicals to avoid any interruption in your student’s athletic season.

According to the CDC, the recommended amount of sleep for high school students is between 8 and 10 hours. Sleep is important for ALL aspects of health. Children and adolescents who do not get enough sleep have a higher risk of obesity, diabetes, injuries, poor mental health, and problems with attention and behavior. Getting the right amount of sleep improves memory, helps your brain focus, boosts mood, and even boosts your immune system. Prioritize rest, just like you would your homework; it’s one of the best things you can do for your mind and body.
