David Prouty has a culture of continuous improvement! We strive for improvement in every aspect of teaching & learning and the student experience in order to support students being productive at their highest levels. We are in the business of student achievement and building a positive school culture--these are the only agendas at DPHS that count!
Thank you to StuCo for last weekend's Homecoming Spirit Week, Pep Rally, and Dance!
Teachers and students swapped wardrobe places -- including props-- for Teacher / Student Swap Dress Up Day!
The first pep rally in the new gymnasium did not disappoint!
There really is no explaining the fun of a pep rally; you just have to see it. Above, to wit, is Mr. Bresky being pulled by Ms. Robbins and Mr. Fazio during a grade-level and faculty competition. This was the first pep rally and dance held in the brand new gymnasium.

Thank you to our awesome student council and all the faculty and staff who participated, helped organize, run, and chaperone throughout Homecoming Week! Saturday's dance was held in the decorated and festive gymnasium! 💕

Algebra 1: "Math in 3 Acts"

Students in Mrs. Robbins' Algebra 1 class watched Act 1, showing a basketball player and comparing his height to various objects. From there, students asked questions and made observations. Act 2 relayed some information and students determined they were to calculate how many cups stacked together it took to reach the height of the basketball player. Using linear algebra, y = mx + b, in Act 3 they calculated that he was ~126 cups tall.
On Friday, October 17, students chose a stack of objects and made their own measurements and wrote their own equations to represent the change of height for their objects.
Photography Class Sharpens Their Focus!
Over the past few weeks in Ms. Battles' Photography Class, students have been mastering how to achieve sharp focus on their subjects while also strengthening their photo editing skills.

Environmental Science Students Apply Real-World Skills!

When removing invasive species, getting the roots out is important! Above, juniors in Environmental Science help Common Ground Land Trust at their Greenville Pond Property.
Below, Environmental Science Students also visited Casella Material Recovery Facility in Auburn. Students learned how loud, smelly, and dangerous recycling can be when the wrong materials are placed among legitimate items (batteries do not belong in the recycling, they cause fires!).

DPHS 9th Graders started their FOURTH and FINAL rotation of Exploratory at David Prouty High School today, Friday, October 17!
Please remember, as students start their fourth rotation, conversations you can have at home that support your child's consideration about their goals, interests, skills, and hobbies, and how that may influence their choice in a program for Quarter 2, are greatly appreciated! Stay tuned for more information on placements for the remainder of the year!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to emphasize the importance of early detection and adopt healthy habits that promote long-term wellness. While breast cancer is rare in teens, learning about self-awareness and family health history is an important step toward lifelong health. Please encourage the women in your life to schedule regular screenings!
Learn more about breast cancer and click the link from National Breast Cancer Foundation https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/what-is-breast-cancer/
The pink ribbon has become the universal symbol of breast cancer, illustrating the cause, raising awareness, and bringing together women in solidarity.
Health Tips
Fall brings cooler weather and an increase in respiratory illnesses, such as the common cold, flu, RSV, and COVID-19. Protect yourself and others by practicing healthy habits daily:
Wash your hands often with soap and water - especially before eating and using shared devices
Avoid touching your face
Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue - then wash or sanitize your hands
Keep your immune system strong by getting enough rest, eating well, and staying hydrated
Fresh air - when possible, open windows and spend time outdoors
Stay home if you’re sick - students' symptoms must be improving, and they must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school
Please call or email the nurse with any questions or concerns!
