David Prouty has a culture of continuous improvement! We strive for improvement in every aspect of teaching & learning and the student experience in order to support students being productive at their highest levels. We are in the business of student achievement and building a positive school culture--these are the only agendas at DPHS that count!
Don't forget Monday, January 19 is a holiday with no school in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
In the spirit of MLK Day, please consider how you can serve others in your local or wider community. We are all in this together!
Be sure to note recent updates to this year's school calendar!
On Tuesday, January 13, the SEBRSD School Committee voted to amend the school calendar to include two additional school days in an effort to mitigate the impact of days we were forced to close following the flood on December 16 at the high school building. On that day, the flood damage at the high school building created conditions that canceled school for five school days leading up to the planned release for the holiday break (December 17, 18, 19, 22, and 23, 2025), and these days must be made up in order to reach the 180-school day mandate.
Please note:
Thursday, January 29, 2026 was originally slated to be a full professional development day for teachers and no school for students; January 29 will now be a HALF DAY OF SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS AT DAVID PROUTY HIGH SCHOOL ONLY with dismissal at 11:06 a.m.;
Friday, April 3, 2026 was originally slated to be a no-school day for students and faculty / staff in observance of Good Friday; April 3 will now be a FULL DAY OF SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF AT DAVID PROUTY HIGH SCHOOL ONLY;
Transportation will be provided as usual.
Please remember these two changes affect ONLY David Prouty High School. The remaining district school buildings will follow the originally-published school calendar with a full professional development day for faculty / staff on January 29 (no school for students) and no school on April 3 in observance of Good Friday.
The remaining three days that must be made up will be added to the end of the school as of now. If changes due to excessive snow days are necessary, updates will be shared as soon as they are known.
Congratulations to our December Students of the Month!
As part of the National Honor Society's Be the Change project, each month NHS recognizes two students with the Panthers of the Month award.
Panthers of the Month are nominated by the faculty for helping others, making more of an effort, and/or being role models for our school.
Congratulations to Jayce Acevedo and Goodness Mercy Asensoh for being our Panthers of the Month for December!
Thank you for making positive contributions to our DPHS community!
Students Thank Construction Teams & Local EMS!

On Friday, January 16, Student Council members from DPHS demonstrated their gratitude to the many, many people who responded to the recent flood situation. Teams related to the construction of the new building from Fontaine Bros. and Colliers International, as well as several local emergency response agencies including Spencer Fire, Spencer Police, and Leicester Fire & EMS showed a level of dedication that is impossible to describe and even more difficult to adequately thank them for. Following the burst pipe on Tuesday, December 16, which caused extensive damage to the brand-new David Prouty High School, emergency services and these construction-related teams responded to safely evacuate the building, clean up the immediate and extensive water, and then essentially tear out and reconstruct multiple spaces--including the gymnasium--that would be needed for the high school to continue operating. Despite an 5-day early, unplanned start to the December holiday break, Colliers and Fontaine Bros., pulled off what can only be described as INCREDIBLE feat, sacrificing much their own holiday time with family and friends to ensure our students and faculty / staff could return on time in January. It was a truly impressive demonstration of professionalism, heartfelt dedication, and honorable service that we continue to be humbled by.
StuCo members presented thank-you posters to the teams they know deserve enormous gratitude on Friday, and the teams' are shown below, accepting these tokens of DPHS appreciation.
We extend our most heartfelt thanks to the safety professionals who managed the emergency in the beginning, and to these phenomenal construction teams, these dedicated professionals, who have worked on this project for years and become part of the community. Their immense investment in the Spencer-East Brookfield District shows, and our thanks are endless.

🎒Attendance Matters!
Did you know student attendance in school is a legal requirement that schools are obligated to track and report? Schools have a variety of resources to assist when students are school avoidant or reluctant to attend. If you need assistance, best to reach out and document your efforts as parents / guardians because if court support becomes necessary, the attempts to obtain help are often viewed favorably!
AND it's the law!

Environmental Science
Great Advice for Enjoying Winter!

Using those skills on Mt. Wachusett, students in Mr. Barnett's Hiking course encountered cool, foggy, ice conditions. Students planned their own small group hikes to the summit allowing them to practice their leadership skills, then celebrated as a class all the way back down!

Health Tips
Fall brings cooler weather and an increase in respiratory illnesses, such as the common cold, flu, RSV, and COVID-19. Protect yourself and others by practicing healthy habits daily:
Wash your hands often with soap and water - especially before eating and using shared devices
Avoid touching your face
Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue - then wash or sanitize your hands
Keep your immune system strong by getting enough rest, eating well, and staying hydrated
Fresh air - when possible, open windows and spend time outdoors
Stay home if you’re sick - students' symptoms must be improving, and they must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school
Please call or email the nurse with any questions or concerns!
