☝️ Important Information for Parents / Guardians:
The DPHS Student Handbook is posted on our website. Please be sure you are looking through it for information on important aspects of DPHS operations, like:
Dismissal Procedures--parents / guardians must send a written, signed, dated note to school in order for us to release a student. Phone calls and emails are not permitted as they do not allow us to verify identity. Even students who are 18 need parental permission to sign themselves out.
Attendance Procedures--be aware of the impact attendance has on credits and how to avoid the pitfalls of excessive attendance. Regular attendance is not just a DPHS preference, it's the law.
Absent Notification--any student whose parent / guardian has not called them out for the day will have a phone call sent home to verify the absence.
Behavioral Expectations--it's important that students and families are aware of behavioral expectations so they can be reinforced and understood. While standards might be different at home or in different places in a student's life, it is very important that they understand at school, expectations that are in place are based on safety, security, and the incredible responsibility we have for maintaining a learning environment that supports everyone!
Food and Beverage--students will not be permitted to consume anything but water after the end of first period. Due to our grab-and-go breakfast process, we allow students first period to consume their breakfast. After this time, because of the consistent issues with trash, insects / mice or other pests attracted by food (which is costly to remediate), damage done by liquids and food on furniture and technology, as well as keeping the halls safe from slippery spills, students must be done or throw out coffee, food, or any beverages than water. Please help support this expectation to keep this brand-new facility clean and looking beautiful!
Medications Policy--it is critical that students receive any medication that they require, and our handbook has details on how to safely and appropriately document and provide this medication while in school.
Tardy-to-School Procedures--students arriving late disrupt the learning of others and "on time" means IN first period when the 7:45 a.m. bell rings. The bell system is automated and synced to standard cell phone time. Whether a student is on time is determined by this clock system. Students arriving to school by car should allow extra time for traffic, flat tires, or other things that may delay their arrival. Two free tardies per quarter are given for these or similar circumstances, but if students use them for no reason, they will be held to the expectation that a detention is served for the third and every subsequence tardy. ANY arrival after 8:00 a.m. is issued a tardy and there are no free passes for students arriving this late.
Our 2026-2027 Student Handbook is posted on our website and is the responsibility of every student and parent / guardian to read and acknowledge through Family ID. Failure to submit the electronic acknowledgement does not preclude students from being held accountable to the handbook expectations or district policies.

The Prouty Music Association currently has two fundraisers that you can contribute to and get both great stuff, and support our awesome student musicians.
1. Prouty Music Fundraiser – Meadow Farms Candle
We are working with Meadow Farms Candle, a Massachusetts-based company, for our current fundraiser. There are lots of great items available, including candles, wrapping paper, kitchen supplies, chocolates, and more! These funds will be going towards the Band Trip in 2027, Hershey Park!

Freshman cannot receive their Chromebook until this step is completed and one of the most important pieces of data includes emergency contacts and those permitted to dismiss students. Please update your contacts!
This is especially important to ensure that the primary / secondary contact, emergency, medical, and other information is updated and current in our system.
For incoming freshmen and new students, Chromebooks will be issued after the Student Handbook acknowledgment, which includes the Acceptable Use Policy, is signed!

Early Education & Care (EEC) III / EEC IV Students Join Cubs' Corner Pre-School for PE!
On Wednesday, Mr. Leroux from Cubs’ Corner, which is the district's preschool, as well as EBES invited our Juniors and Seniors to join his preschoolers for Physical Education play! Students had the opportunity to assist with parachute activities and enjoy the new playground alongside our youngest learners.
This is our first example of the meaningful, authentic learning opportunities that will naturally develop as the Preschool settles into its new home at David Prouty. Our EEC students are excited to build connections, share their skills, and collaborate with our new neighbors!

EEC Exploratory Stages of Play Lab Stations
Freshmen Exploratory students in Early Education & Care participated in a hands-on station lab using a variety of preschool toys and games. At each station, students explored the toys and identified the cognitive types of play that children could engage in while playing. Students also considered the social stages of play each toy or game allows or encourages, from solitary and parallel play to associative and cooperative play. This activity gave students a look at familiar toys from their childhood and helped them to understand how play supports children’s development!
EEC III and IV Lab Design and Budget
Juniors and Seniors in Early Education and Care are putting their skills into action as they help design the new EEC Lab in the Preschool wing! Students are revisiting concepts from the 10th Grade Classroom Design Unit while considering how classroom layout, furniture, materials, and learning centers can support young children’s development. They are also learning to create and manage a real classroom budget, researching supplies and making purchasing decisions that will directly impact our preschool environment. This hands-on experience gives students an authentic opportunity to practice the skills of an early childhood educator while contributing to a classroom they will actually use for learning, observation, and hands-on experiences!

Information for 9th Grade Families about the CTE Exploratory Rotations!
Our Freshmen are wrapping up their first CTE Exploratory Rotation today, September 18! As students move through Quarter 1, they are beginning to experience the four Career Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at David Prouty High School and are learning more about their own interests, strengths, and skills.
A Quick Reminder About Missing Work: If your student has missing work from Rotation 1, please encourage them to check their assignments and submit everything by the end of class tomorrow, Friday, September 18th. Once a rotation ends, late work will not be accepted for that rotation.
Student Reflections: At the end of each rotation, students will complete a short Exploratory Reflection Form. These reflections help students document what they learned, what they enjoyed, what challenged them, and what they may want to explore further. We encourage students to think beyond “I liked it” or “I didn't like it.” Asking why can help them better understand their own interests and make a more informed CTE program choice at the end of Quarter 1!

Why Exploratory?
Students do not need to know what career they want after high school. That's one of the reasons Exploratory is so valuable! Through their rotations, students have the opportunity to try new things, experience different career fields, and discover skills and interests they may not have known they had.
Even when a program doesn't seem connected to a student's future plans, CTE helps develop transferable skills such as:
Communication & teamwork
Problem-solving & critical thinking
Responsibility & professionalism
Organization & time management
Creativity & adaptability
Hands-on & technical skills
Career and workplace awareness
A student might discover a career they love—or discover something they don't want to pursue. They might also find a skill from one program that they carry into an entirely different career!
All of these are valuable outcomes of Exploratory.
We encourage families to ask students about each rotation: What did you do? What did you learn? What surprised you? What was challenging? What would you like to try again?
Most importantly, remind your student that they don't have to know what they want to be when they grow up…
That's what Exploratory is for!

Did you know that DPHS is an officially-designated Early College High School? This means that students at David Prouty have access to college classes that bear college credit while attending DPHS. These courses carry fully-transferrable credit that gives them a head start on college coursework which can impact both time and financial burdens!
Thanks to a generous grant from the state, we have been able to implement this program to benefit students across all grade levels as they're given opportunities that inspire them to consider college options, take field trips to college campuses, attend summer school, get college credits during summer months, and be exposed to speakers and presentations that help them realize the potential that a college-track future provides!
Ask a counselor for more information on the Early College High School program and keep your eyes open for the opportunities brought to our students by this awesome program!

Attendance Matters!
Parents / guardians play a key role in supporting your child and preparing them for a successful future. Engaging children in learning so they are equipped and feel empowered for the next steps in life after graduation starts with attending school regularly.
Regular school attendance is critical to student success, not just academically, but for social/ emotional health, as well. Excessive school absences not only cause students to fall behind academically but can also cause anxiety issues when returning to school, due to missed lessons and make-up work. In addition, peer relationships can be negatively impacted.

Community Service Opportunities!
There is a community service REQUIREMENT in order to graduate from David Prouty
Here are a couple of exciting fall volunteer opportunities to share with you. Remember, these are GREAT WAYS to add to your REQUIRED community service hours for graduation!
First, Camp Marshall is hosting their inaugural Halloween Kids' Fest on Saturday October 17th in the evening. I do not have specific time details yet but will get that out to you ASAP.
Second, Wire Village School is hosting their second annual Trunk or Treat & Spooky Walk on Saturday, October 24th from 4-6 PM. They are looking for student volunteers to d
irect people to the back parking lot or spooky walk, d
istribute candy to trunks as they get low, dress up in something spooky for the spooky walk (not TOO scary/inappropriate for the elementary school), and sit at the voting table (voting for best trunk decorations) to monitor it. Plan to be there from 3:30-6:15.

Wire Village School is looking for student volunteers to help out with their monthly PAWS (Parents At Wire Village School) meetings with watching young children who have to accompany their parent(s) to the meeting.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a safe and healthy summer! Please take a moment to review these important Health Office reminders.
Please notify the nurse of any new medical conditions, allergies, or medications that may affect your student’s care during the school day.
As part of the First day of school paperwork, which is electronic, parents/guardians should complete the health information, which includes:
Emergency contact information
Allergies
Parent/guardian permission for over-the-counter medication administration (Tylenol, Motrin, Tums), when applicable
Please note: We will not administer medications at school without the required electronic parent/guardian consent. Paper copies are available upon request, or you can click OTC permission
For all other prescription and non-prescription medications required to be administered to a student during school hours, an updated physician’s order is required at the start of every school year.
For student safety, all medications excluding EpiPens and Inhalers must be delivered directly to the Health Office by a parent/guardian or other trusted adult. Students should not transport medications to school. All medication must be in the original labeled prescription bottle and include no more than a 30-day supply.

💦 Stay Hydrated: Bring a refillable water bottle, use our brand new water refill stations, and stay hydrated! Water is vital and plays a key role in many of our body’s functions. Water can help you stay focused and have more energy. It can prevent issues like headaches, irritability, and fatigue.
