David Prouty has a culture of continuous improvement! We strive for improvement in every aspect of teaching & learning and the student experience in order to support students being productive at their highest levels. We are in the business of student achievement and building a positive school culture--these are the only agendas at DPHS that count!
Knox Trail 8th Graders Visit DPHS!
Below, 8th graders sit in the new auditorium to hear a short presentation on what DPHS has to offer before beginning their tour.

On Wednesday, October 7, the 8th Grade from Knox Trail Middle School visited DPHS for a tour, short presentation from the school, a visit to each of our four Career and Technical Education programs, and the opportunity to peruse the Academics & Activities fair to learn what was waiting for them as our newest Panthers next year! The tour was led by our awesome high school student ambassadors. Our students proudly represented the wide array of our offerings here at DPHS. The Academic and Activity Fair featured most of our extracurricular clubs and all of our academic pathways, which include CTE, Advanced Placement, and Early College High School opportunities. The 8th Grade Tour intentionally highlighted visits to our 4 Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs, because all 9th Grade students are provided the opportunity to enroll in our Exploratory process during Quarter 1 -- there is no need to apply to our tech programs!
Thanks to our CTE Department, and especially the CTE Department Head, Ms. Ashley Leveillee, for her exceptional work in organizing and promoting this special event for our upcoming Class of 2031! Photos above from DPHS staff!
We truly believe there are foundational skills and knowledge gained in each of our tech programs, and encourage families to talk to their children about what they enjoy, what they are good at, and how their interests might connect to future opportunities. Choosing a CTE program does not mean a student is choosing one career for the rest of their life -- instead we offer them the opportunity to explore, build skills, gain real-world experiences, and discover possibilities for their bright futures.
For more information, please preview our attached 8th Grade Tour Presentation and Academic Pathways & Extracurricular Activities Flyers that were provided to students on Wednesday.
If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to your child's Guidance Counselor, Ms. Leveillee, or the Principals of KTMS or DPHS.

✍️ In the Spotlight: Junior Poetry Project
Mrs. Sitterly’s Junior ELA students recently completed a Symbolism Poem assignment. It is inspired by a Native American poem titled "Thank-You: A Poem In Seventeen Parts," and it focuses on how important nature was to the Seneca tribe. The students had to create imagery by using sensory details and figurative language to write a poem about an aspect of nature, while incorporating the Native American symbolism that correlated with the topic.

🥁🎶🎺DPHS Attends UMASS Band Day 2026!
University of Massachusetts Band Day is a chance for students from all around Massachusetts to get together, perform music with the UMASS Marching Band and have fun! Prouty Band joined 25 other schools, 1200 students, and 350 marching band students to bring music to life on the field. During half time of the sold-out UMASS football game, the students took the field to perform K-Pop songs "Golden" and "Soda Pop". Band Day is a great chance to make new friends, make music together, and watch some football! Also, the DPHS band was able to connect with 4 alumni students who are now members of the UMASS Marching Band!

😁 Congratulations to our first Panthers
of the Month for 2026-2027!
As part of the National Honor Society's Be the Change Project, each month NHS recognizes two students with the Panthers of the Month award. Panthers of the month are nominated by the faculty for helping others, making an effort, and / or being role models for our school.
Congratulations to Lucas Bastien and Ian Roberts for being our September Panthers of the Month! Thank you for making a positive impact and for your contributions to our school!
📷DPHS MAKE UP Picture Day IS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13!
We hope to see anyone and everyone from our district towns who has been part of and watched this incredible project take shape, and who we hope to see utilize this beautiful facility in the years to come. We hope to become a community center in the truest sense of the word!
Join us for this chance to tour the new building and see all the spaces where our students get to experience high school life to the fullest!
The building will be open from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and we will have representatives from the students and staff on hand to answer questions and help guide visitors.
We can't wait to see you at Sunset on the Boulevard!

🗓️ Important Information!
☝️ Important Information for Parents / Guardians:
The DPHS Student Handbook is posted on our website. Please be sure you are looking through it for information on important aspects of DPHS operations.
Our 2026-2027 Student Handbook is posted on our website and is the responsibility of every student and parent / guardian to read and acknowledge through Family ID. Failure to submit the electronic acknowledgement does not preclude students from being held accountable to the handbook expectations or district policies.

On Thursday, October 8, Juniors and Seniors in EEC hosted peers from the PACE and Transitions programs for game groups. This is a favorite activity for students from all three classrooms - spending recreational time together every few weeks is something everyone looks forward to!
Freshmen: Still not sure why you are in Exploratory?
Exploratory is an opportunity to learn about David Prouty's four Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. Exploratory is not a requirement to know exactly what you want to do after high school. Our goal is to give you a chance to learn about different career fields, try new things, and discover skills and interests that you may not have known you had!
You may already have a future career in mind—or you may have no idea what you want to do after high school. Both are completely okay!
Rotation 3 began on Tuesday, October 6th: Please see the graphic below for which CTE Program you have for Rotation2:
As you move through Exploratory, we encourage you to be open-minded. Even if you don't think a particular program is connected to your future career, each CTE program teaches foundational skills that can be valuable in college, careers, and everyday life.
CTE can help you develop skills such as:
Communication and teamwork
Problem-solving and critical thinking
Responsibility and professionalism
Organization and time management
Working with others
Hands-on and technical skills
Creativity and adaptability
Career awareness and workplace skills
You may discover that you love a particular career field. You may discover something you don't want to do. You may even discover a skill from a program that you carry with you into a completely different career! All of those are valuable outcomes of Exploratory.
We encourage you to keep an open mind, try something new, and take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about yourself and the skills you have to offer... You don't have to know what you want to be when you grow up.
That's what Exploratory is for!

STAY at Prouty....and GO FAR in your career!

Did you know that DPHS is an officially-designated Early College High School? This means that students at David Prouty have access to college classes that bear college credit while attending DPHS. These courses carry fully-transferrable credit that gives them a head start on college coursework which can impact both time and financial burdens!
Thanks to a generous grant from the state, we have been able to implement this program to benefit students across all grade levels as they're given opportunities that inspire them to consider college options, take field trips to college campuses, attend summer school, get college credits during summer months, and be exposed to speakers and presentations that help them realize the potential that a college-track future provides!
Ask a counselor for more information on the Early College High School program and keep your eyes open for the opportunities brought to our students by this awesome program!

Attendance Matters!
Remember there are real, impactful consequences to missing a lot of school. Losing credits, falling behind day to day, and court involvement are all potential consequences to not attending school regularly.
Parents / guardians play a key role in supporting your child and preparing them for a successful future. Engaging children in learning so they are equipped and feel empowered for the next steps in life after graduation starts with attending school regularly.
Regular school attendance is critical to student success, not just academically, but for social/ emotional health, as well. Excessive school absences not only cause students to fall behind academically but can also cause anxiety issues when returning to school, due to missed lessons and make-up work. In addition, peer relationships can be negatively impacted.
For students suffering with school-avoidance or other struggles that make regular attendance a challenge, please reach out to our counseling staff (see contact information below in Counseling) or the main office. There is a lot of support and we want to see students succeed!
There are so many opportunities to get involved at Prouty! The high school experience is enhanced by getting involved in activities or sports that you think you might (or already!) enjoy, and finding or deepening connections with classmates and friends of all grades!
David Prouty High School offers these organizations to make finding YOUR place in our community even more fun:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to emphasize the importance of early detection and adopt healthy habits that promote long-term wellness. While breast cancer is rare in teens, learning about self-awareness and family health history is an important step toward lifelong health. Please encourage the women in your life to schedule regular screenings!

Health Tips
Fall brings cooler weather and more respiratory illnesses, such as the common cold, flu, RSV, and COVID-19. Protect yourself and others by practicing healthy habits daily:
Wash your hands often - especially before eating and using shared devices
Avoid touching your face
Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue - then wash or sanitize your hands
Keep your immune system strong by getting enough rest, eating well, and staying hydrated
Fresh air - when possible, open windows and spend time outdoors
Stay home if you’re sick - students' symptoms must be improving, and they must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school
Mental Health Matters
Does your student complain of frequent headaches, stomachaches, nausea, or fatigue before school or during the school day? First, visit your doctor to rule out medical concerns. If your student gets a clean bill of health, these symptoms can be a sign of anxiety. Academic demands, college planning, social situations, extracurricular activities, and everyday stress can affect how students feel physically and emotionally.
Make time for a weekly check-in with your student about how they are feeling - physically, emotionally, and academically. A simple conversation can help identify concerns and remind students that support is available at home and school.
For more information about anxiety and strategies for supporting students, please see the resources below.

Please call or email the nurse with any questions or concerns!
