CTE

Freshman Rotation 4 began on Friday, October 23

Please see the graphic below for which CTE Program you have for Rotation 4:

cte

(As a reminder, PowerSchool will always reflect the instructor of their first rotation.)

As we approach the end of the first quarter on Friday, November 6th, we want to remind you that students enrolled in Exploratory will soon be selecting the CTE Pathway they wish to continue exploring further!

We encourage students to choose a program that best aligns with their future career goals and personal interests. Each of our Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways offers valuable, hands-on experiences and foundational skills that can be applied to a wide variety of careers.

We acknowledge that not all students may have direct interest in these careers. While each program has a focus, students also gain transferable skills in each pathway that will support success in many other professions.

Please refer to the graphic below for some examples:

cteWe are proud of the effort students have put into exploring these programs and look forward to supporting them as they take their next step toward choosing a meaningful career pathway - whatever that may be!

To support your 9th Grader in making an informed decision, it would be helpful to discuss the program that may align best with their current hobbies, interests and aspirations!

If you have any questions about program choices or the selection process, please reach out to myself, your child's Guidance Counselor, or any of the following CTE Instructors:

Hillary Murray, Public Safety (murrayh@sebrsd.org)

Ashley Leveillee, Early Education and Care (leveilleea@sebrsd.org)

James Barnett, Environmental Science (barnettj@sebrsd.org)

Sandra St. Onge, Marketing (stonges@sebrsd.org)

That's what Exploratory is for!

STAY at Prouty....and GO FAR in your career!

ECHSECHSDid you know that DPHS is an officially-designated Early College High School? This means that students at David Prouty have access to college classes that bear college credit while attending DPHS. These courses carry fully-transferrable credit that gives them a head start on college coursework which can impact both time and financial burdens!

Thanks to a generous grant from the state, we have been able to implement this program to benefit students across all grade levels as they're given opportunities that inspire them to consider college options, take field trips to college campuses, attend summer school, get college credits during summer months, and be exposed to speakers and presentations that help them realize the potential that a college-track future provides!

Ask a counselor for more information on the Early College High School program and keep your eyes open for the opportunities brought to our students by this awesome program!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to emphasize the importance of early detection and adopt healthy habits that promote long-term wellness. While breast cancer is rare in teens, learning about self-awareness and family health history is an important step toward lifelong health. Please encourage the women in your life to schedule regular screenings!

Health Tips

Fall brings cooler weather and more respiratory illnesses, such as the common cold, flu, RSV, and COVID-19. Protect yourself and others by practicing healthy habits daily:

  • Wash your hands often - especially before eating and using shared devices

  • Avoid touching your face

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue - then wash or sanitize your hands

  • Keep your immune system strong by getting enough rest, eating well, and staying hydrated

  • Fresh air - when possible, open windows and spend time outdoors

  • Stay home if you’re sick - students' symptoms must be improving, and they must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school

Mental Health Matters

Does your student complain of frequent headaches, stomachaches, nausea, or fatigue before school or during the school day? First, visit your doctor to rule out medical concerns. If your student gets a clean bill of health, these symptoms can be a sign of anxiety. Academic demands, college planning, social situations, extracurricular activities, and everyday stress can affect how students feel physically and emotionally.

Make time for a weekly check-in with your student about how they are feeling - physically, emotionally, and academically. A simple conversation can help identify concerns and remind students that support is available at home and school.

For more information about anxiety and strategies for supporting students, please see the resources below.

Please call or email the nurse with any questions or concerns!
