Dear Spencer-East Brookfield Middle School and Elementary School Families,

I hope this message finds you well. As our fall athletic season continues, it's been wonderful to see so many Elementary and Middle School students attending our Friday night football games to cheer on the Panthers. These events truly bring our community together, and it's great to see students having fun and showing their school spirit.

As a former School Principal, I understand how important it is for students at this age to gain independence—attending games and social events without feeling like their parents or guardians are constantly watching over their shoulders. However, there's a learning curve in navigating these settings responsibly. Many of our students do this well, but some are still developing those skills.

That's where we need the help of our Middle School and Elementary School parents and guardians. During games, many students spend time around the main athletic field or in areas that are not open to spectators. Although the District has several staff members present to supervise, we've observed an increasing number of situations where students are not following directions, resulting in avoidable behavioral issues.

Please remind your child before attending the game to:

  • Stay in designated spectator areas.

  • No bikes are allowed in the area. Bikes should be secured in the bike racks.

  • Listen to staff and follow instructions.

To ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely, please remember that all Elementary and Middle School students must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the game. Students cannot be dropped off alone; a parent or guardian must remain on site. We appreciate families planning ahead so everyone can participate safely and responsibly in what promises to be a great night for our community. Unaccompanied elementary or middle school students will not be given access into the game.

Since football games are district-sponsored events, all rules outlined in the Student Handbook remain in effect. These small reminders at home go a long way in helping students enjoy their independence responsibly while keeping our community events safe and positive for everyone.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us maintain a welcoming and safe environment at our home games. Together, we can make these events something all members of our Panthers can be proud of.

Sincerely yours,

Paul S. Haughey, Ed.D.
