Reading has many proven benefits.  To name a few, reading can improve your sleep, increase your vocabulary, help you live longer, improve your relationships, reduce stress, and decrease symptoms of depression.  Summer is the perfect time to grab a book and start reading!

Guidelines

  • Select one of the 24 books below.

    • Students who are enrolled in two ELA classes will need to read two books.

  • Read it thoroughly.

  • Be prepared to take a test on your chosen book in your English Language Arts (ELA) class on Tuesday, September 8th.

Grading

Summer reading will be worth:

  • A test grade in your ELA class

    • On Tuesday, September 8th, all students will take a multiple-choice test on their chosen book from the DPHS Summer Reading list.

    • The multiple-choice test will determine your first test grade. 

You can access the following books for FREE at:

  • Sora:  Sora has most of the books in ebook and audiobook versions.

    • Access Sora through the Library Group on Schoology on any device.  Click on “Resources” on the left-hand side of the screen, then click on the Orange Folder: Sora eBook and Audiobook Collection.  Once you are redirected, you can search for any of the following titles.

    • Download the Sora app on your phone.  If you have not already done so, you will need to set up your account by logging in with your SEBRSD Google account and selecting David Prouty High as your school.  Then, you can search for any title there.

  • Richard Sugden Library or the East Brookfield Public Library:  Both public libraries have these titles or can order them for you.
