Readers help us choose each week's worthy student.
The nominees:
Summaries submitted by each school.
Zoe Bodinizzo, Burncoat High School:Zoe, a freshman, is a natural born leader. She is mature beyond her years. Zoe is always completing her work early, offering to help other students and volunteering beyond what is asked of her.
Alex Johnson, David Prouty High School: Alex, a junior, have worked hard to overcome challenges in their education, including spending a few years out of school. With determination and a love for learning, they are now taking Honors AP and Early College classes. Alex is proud to be part of the National Honor Society, where they keep pushing themselves to be better every day and truly enjoys giving back to their community.
Sadie O'Toole, Douglas High School:Sadie, a senior, has been an outstanding participant in our school’s Senior Work Study Program, where she has been shadowing at the Uxbridge District Court. Her mentors consistently praise her as a valuable asset to their office, noting her helpfulness, professionalism and thoughtful questions. This experience has strengthened Sadie’s passion for pursuing a career in law. In addition to her academic achievements, Sadie will continue her athletic career next fall, playing Division I soccer at Stonehill College.
Astrid Hernandez Tello, Clinton High School: Astrid, a senior, deserves this honor because she's involved in so many leadership roles, sports and community service commitments while maintaining good grades, working a part-time job, taking four AP classes and completing college applications without missing a deadline. She's president of No Place for Hate, vice president of National Honor Society where she tutors students before and after school for community service hours, a senior captain on the girls soccer team and a member of Step-up to Excellence where she also logs community service hours. What really sets Astrid apart is that she doesn't do any of this for recognition or because it's required. She genuinely cares about making a difference in our community and helping the people around her. Even without the service requirements from her clubs, she'd still be out there volunteering and leading others.
