Good afternoon,
I hope this Superintendent Update for December 2025 finds you and yours well.
Enrollment: Our enrollment as a regional school district has steadied. As of this morning, we have 1470 students enrolled within our district. David Prouty High School has 318 students enrolled; Knox Trail Middle School has 403 students; Wire Village School has 459 students; and East Brookfield Elementary School has 268 students, including 114 students enrolled for the "Cubs Corner" Preschool!
Personnel: We continue to post for paraprofessionals to join our district. If you are interested in becoming a part of our family, please apply at: https://www.schoolspring.com

Early College Update: David Prouty High School, in partnership with Worcester State University, continues to offer early college coursework to our first cohort of approximately 18 students. We are incredibly proud of our students for putting themselves out there and challenging themselves with innovative college coursework at no cost to themselves or their families as they work towards not only a high school diploma but a college degree. As a designated program through the Early College Joint Commission, David Prouty High School and Worcester State are digging in with innovative programs of study that set us apart from many other school districts in Southern Worcester County. As our first cohort moves through their studies, we will continue to provide you with updates on our innovative and inspiring students.

Recently, Early College High School students visited Worcester State! Accompanied by the ECHS Coordinators, Ms. Leveillee and Mrs. Paradis, students learned about campus academic resources, toured the campus, visited the bookstore, and received their WSU IDs! Students enrolled in the ECHS program have all the perks and benefits of being a college student, including access to an array of opportunities and support! Thank you to Worcester State for partnering with us as a small, rural, regional school district whose students strive to move forward on a pathway filled with purpose

Inclement Weather Notifications: As noted in our 2025-2026 school calendar, we will have traditional snow days this year. Safety considerations, uniform access to electricity/internet during the school day, and making snow days an essential part of successfully navigating the school year make snow days necessary. Calling snow days in New England is difficult. As the Superintendent of Schools, I have a unique opportunity to evaluate conditions in real time and consult with the National Weather Service, the Department of Public Works, local Emergency Management officials, and neighboring towns. My decision regarding delaying, closing, or releasing schools early has always been and always will be based upon “safety first” for everyone within our learning community. If you have not already done so please put a plan in place for the safe care and/or receipt of your child if a weather-related delay, closing, or release is necessary.

Notification Process: Our district has now transitioned over to the latest version of our App and website. Our latest App and website services are our primary means for delivering the most up-to-date information to your cell phones with our notification feature. To get the App, you can go to the Apple Store or Google Play Store and search for “SEBRSD” then download the App to your phone.

MSBA Update: Progress continues to move forward well with "A" Building renovations. With the winter months now upon us, the structure has been enclosed and is heated so the crews may work throughout the winter months at speed with an anticipated completion date of August 14th, 2025.
Later this month, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 6:00 pm, the School Building Committee will hold its annual meeting via Zoom and in person at David Prouty High School (Room 241).
