DPHS Music Program Chorus Performance 2026

Good afternoon,

I hope this Superintendent Update for February 2026 finds you and your family well as we navigate the winter months and look toward spring. As a community committed to "Teaching and Learning with Purpose," we have much to celebrate and look forward to in the coming month.

Enrollment: Our enrollment as a regional school district has increased by more than 8 students since our last update, and the number keeps climbing! As of this morning, we have 1,487 students enrolled within our district. David Prouty High School has 322 students enrolled; Knox Trail Middle School has 408 students; Wire Village School has 465 students; and East Brookfield Elementary School has 271 students, including 118 students enrolled for the "Cubs Corner" Preschool!

Personnel: At this time, all positions with the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District are filled. Please check for any opportunities that arise in the months ahead at https://www.schoolspring.com.

"Cubs Corner" Preschool Registration - February 2026! As we enter the new year, we understand that our "Cubs Corner" Preschool is a high-quality program serving the needs of 3-5-year-olds, and people want to register as soon as possible. Please note that we open registration in February each year.

Academic & Student Highlights

We are incredibly proud of the hard work and achievements of our students and staff.

Academic Achievement Award: Congratulations to Matthew McNicol, the recipient of the 2025-2026 M.A.S.S. Academic Achievement Award, for his outstanding dedication and performance.

Music Accomplishments: Jackson Rutkiewicz was recently selected for the All-State Chorus, a tremendous honor that reflects his talent and commitment. Additionally, David Prouty High School students Bradyn LaFountain and Jackson Rutkiewicz represented our district at the prestigious Central Massachusetts District Concert.

Service Leadership: Knox Trail Middle School 8th graders Victoria Mulrain and Cole Milgate have been recognized for their service leadership as the district's 2026 Project 351 Ambassadors.

School Updates

Winter Weather: Living in New England means adapting to unpredictable weather. We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding school delays and closures, such as the one on January 27th due to snow and freezing conditions. Please continue to check the district website or social media channels for the latest updates in case of inclement weather.

Building Project Update: The David Prouty High School Building Project is progressing well, with recent work including the placement of masonry and metal stud interior walls and the formwork for auditorium seating. We are excited about the future learning environment these improvements will provide our students.

Green School Works: The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is accepting proposals for projects that improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and/or mitigate the impacts of climate change at public K-12 schools. While all proposals will be considered, this year's focus is on ground-source heat pumps. Awards can range from $50,000 to $5 million. The deadline to complete the FY26 Green School Works program application is Friday, February 13.

Upcoming Events: Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Spaghetti Dinner & a Show hosted by the David Prouty High School Band. This event is a great opportunity to enjoy an evening of music and support our talented student musicians.

Attendance Matters: Every school day is a critical opportunity for students to learn, grow, and build skills. We kindly ask that parents and caregivers prioritize student attendance to ensure every student is set up for success.
