Dear Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District Families, Staff, and Community,

Welcome to April! As we enter the final stretch of the 2025-2026 school year, our schools are buzzing with activity, from rigorous spring academics to the excitement of upcoming spring athletic seasons and arts performances. This is a time of renewal and focused effort, and I am proud of the dedication shown by our students, staff, and community partners.

Here are some important updates and highlights from across our district:

Important District & Safety News

  • Safety First: We continue to collaborate with local police departments to ensure a safe learning environment. As a reminder, the district uses our automated alert system to keep you informed about safety procedures and emergencies.

  • 2026-2027 Registration: Enrollment is now open for our Kindergarten & Preschool programs for the upcoming school year. Please visit the district website to complete your applications.

·       Enrollment: Our enrollment as a regional school district has remained steady since our last update! As of this morning, we have 1,481 students enrolled within our district. David Prouty High School has 323 students enrolled; Knox Trail Middle School has 408 students; Wire Village School has 465 students; and East Brookfield Elementary School has 271 students, including 118 students enrolled for the "Cubs Corner" Preschool!

·       Personnel: At this time, all positions with the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District are filled. Please check for any opportunities that arise in the months ahead at https://www.schoolspring.com.

  • FY27 Budget Update: In response to inflationary pressures and rising costs, the district school committee adopted a budget last month on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026, following the Public Hearing, that kept student achievement and fiscal responsibility at the forefront.   • MCAS Testing: MCAS testing is currently underway for students across the district. Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy breakfast. Let’s support our students in doing their best!

  • Congratulations, Matthew McNicol! We are thrilled to announce that David Prouty High School senior Matthew McNicol has been named the 2026 Worcester County Superintendents’ Association Scholar. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.

  • Project 351 Ambassadors: We are proud of our Knox Trail Middle School 8th graders, Victoria Mulrain and Cole Milgate, for their service leadership as 2026 Project 351 Ambassadors.

David Prouty High School Building Update

Construction continues to progress toward our final completion goal of Fall 2026.

  • Current Progress: Crews are currently working on concrete slab reinforcing for the new custodial garage and installing electrical conduits beneath the auditorium catwalk.

  • Innovation: We are proud that the new facility is the first public school in Massachusetts to use Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) walls, providing superior durability and energy efficiency.

  • Upcoming Meetings: The School Building Committee will meet on April 16 at 6:00 PM at David Prouty High School and via Zoom to discuss the next phases of the renovation.

  • April 1-2: MCAS ELA Testing (Grades 3 & 4)

  • April 1: Paraprofessional Appreciation Day — Please join me in thanking our vital support staff!

  • April 3: Good Friday.

    • NO SCHOOL for most of the district.

    • FULL DAY OF SCHOOL for David Prouty High School students and staff only to make up for time lost during the winter water main incident.

  • April 6-10: Assistant Principals Week.

  • April 11: Walk for Autism – Hosted by the DPHS National Honor Society.

  • April 14, 2026: School Committee Meeting, 6:00 PM.

  • April 20-24: April Vacation (No School).
