KIDS AND BIKE SAFETY
Dear Knox Trail Families;
We are pleased that so many of our students choose to ride their bicycles to school. However, we are growing increasingly concerned about a small number of cyclists' unsafe behavior. For that reason, we would like to enlist your support.
First, we request that all students cycling to school use the designated bike rack behind the school to ensure the safety of the bikes. Please encourage your child to bring a lock to secure their bikes. Otherwise, the school has no responsibility for bikes that are not locked within the school. We strongly advise that students wear a helmet to and from school and at all times that they are cycling. We also recommend that students regularly have their bikes serviced to ensure roadworthiness.
Recently it has been brought to our attention that some individuals have exhibited reckless and dangerous cycling outside of school. Students have been observed weaving in and out of traffic and pulling out in front of vehicles. While this behavior is not happening on school premises or during school hours, our student's safety and well-being, both in and out of school, is our number one priority.
Effective immediately, once students reach Ash Street on their way to school, they will be required to walk their bikes up the hill. When departing school students will be required to walk their bikes down to the bottom of the hill until they arrive at Ash Street. At that time, they may mount their bike and ride home. If a student is seen riding their bike in an unsafe manner, the administration will issue a warning and notify the student's parent or guardian. If there is a second occurrence of dangerous bicycle operation, that student will no longer be allowed to ride their bike to school. Lastly, I have requested that the Spencer Police Department monitor the roads located near the school to ensure our children’s safety.
Parents, ultimately, it's up to you to ensure that your child understands the importance of riding their bicycles safely. We will do everything humanly possible at Knox Trail to ensure the safety of your child. However, once our students leave school property, our purview is limited.
Thank you in advance for your support in keeping our students safe. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to let me know.
Stay Safe!
Ralph

Teacher AppreciationWeek 2021! #MondayMotivation

How will you recognize & celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week 2021? #ThankYou @MASchoolsK12 @MAScSchoolComm

Today is National Principal “Appreciation” Day! We are lucky to have 7 exceptional principals in our learning community! Their leadership & dedication to the students, families & staff @ChooseSEBRSD have navigated us through turbulent waters this year w/many “pivots!” #ThankYou

To celebrate arbor day we used this calculator https://www.arborday.org/calculator/index.cfm to determine the worth of our trees! Students identified the trees and measured their circumference. Back in the classroom we used that to find the diameter and then looked at the monetary and environmental impacts of our trees. Happy Arbor Day!! #ArborDay2021 #KnoxTrailRocks
